Lieber’s Boxcar Express: A Culinary Delight of Gourmet Sandwiches in Galesburg

Absolutely a hidden gem in this community. Found it by mistake as we were driving around the block to go to another location and saw the name. As we were in town, in part, rail fanning we decided to stop. One of the greatest decisions of the day. Amazing food quality and friendly staff. I had the grilled chicken breast, 8 yr old son had 2 full helpings of the largest, and by his view the best mac n cheese he had in a long time. There was an arcade area but we didn't venture into it as the sign said closed. Also serves a local branded sauce.

Delicious! Our office just enjoyed a tasty lunch from Boxcar. I got the Reuben, my coworkers got spicy nachos and a potato. I didn’t snag a picture of my sandwich because it was gone so fast lol. 10/10.

Visited here while in Monmouth and it was fantastic great food and the atmosphere is really cool. I ordered the half Ruben and one of the baked potatoes. This is definitely a must when in town!

Staff was prompt and helpful. Food was hot and tasty. The atmosphere was cozy and seasonal. If I'm ever in the area, I look forward to trying more of their menu!

Monday night specials are our family's favorite! We grab what everyone likes. Plain, broccli/ cheddar, Ham & Cheese all for $3.99!! For a family of 5 with a half sub our total was $28. Well worth the money! No one would stop eating for me to get pictures so here is my broccli cauliflower and cheddar.

I live in Peoria and I come here with my mom about 2 to 3 times per month. I always get the same thing the number 32 and decided pretzels bites. I don't know what it is they do to the potatoes but they are the best

Some may remember this as Hungry Hobo, the only thing changed is the name so don't worry. For new customers its a train type motif, as you probably guessed from the name. It's kind of cafeteria style, ordering on one end and moving down to drinks and some desserts before paying. If you are a baked potato lover you'll love this place. They offer a wide range of potatoes with various toppings, these are not your average dinner potato, these are huge mutant potatoes. Around 5 bucks is what you'll pay for just about everything, so the prices are great, and no real wait to get your food. They also serve sub sandwiches, although they use a sweet bread which I am not a fan of but that is my personal preference. Regardless the sandwiches are good. I almost always order the supreme nacho add lettuce, the nacho cheese IS the best part of this place. No orange stadium cheese here! A trip to, through, or past Galesburg isn't complete without stopping here.

Secret little spot in Galesburg. Baked potatoes looked really, so did the subs. Had the Ruben, was it the best? No. Was it good? Yes. Cheese fries were average. Staff was super friendly and food came out very quick. Finish off your lunch with a giant cookie.
